When a heater dies, a bench splits or the room starts smelling musty, the fix is usually a repair and rarely a whole new room. Replacing the heater is the most expensive guess in this trade, and it is often the wrong one. We test the supply, the contactor, the sensor, the elements and the control first, then tell you what failed and what it costs to put right. These are the problems that show up most in the rooms we service.
The room takes forever to heat
An hour or more to reach temperature usually points to burned-out elements, a failing sensor, leaky sealing or a heater too small for the room. We find which one it is before anything gets replaced, because the fixes cost very different amounts.
Breakers trip or something smells hot
Undersized wire, loose terminals or a worn contactor can overheat inside the heater box. Switch the heater off at the breaker and call. This is the most urgent sauna heater repair we do, and we move it to the front of the schedule.
The wood is dark, cracked or musty
Blackened benches and a damp smell point to weak ventilation or a failed vapor barrier. Split boards can pinch and splinter. Depending on the damage, we sand, swap individual boards or rebuild the bench frame.
Controls went dead after an outage
Shutoffs and storms can damage control boards and sensors. Sometimes a reset is all it takes. More often the board or the sensor has to be replaced, and we carry the common ones on the truck.
The backyard cabin is leaking
Roof leaks, soft sills and failed door seals are common on older outdoor saunas, especially under oaks and redwoods. We fix the shell and the drainage around it so the same leak does not come back next winter.

Element replacement, contactor and relay work, sensor swaps, stone changes and rewiring. When a heater is past saving, we replace it with a model sized to the room instead of whatever was there before.
Controls and sensors
Digital panels, app-connected controllers, high-limit sensors and timers. Replacements are matched to your heater, or we upgrade you to a newer control if the old one is discontinued.
Benches and backrests
New boards in cedar, hemlock or aspen, fresh supports and hidden fasteners. We can also reshape a bench that never felt right, lowering a tier or adding a proper angle to the backrest.
Ventilation fixes
Adding or relocating vents to cure stuffy heat and damp walls. Proper airflow dries the room after each session, which is what stops the mold from coming back.
Doors, glass and lighting
New hinges, gaskets and handles, replacement tempered glass, and sealed light fixtures rated for the heat near the ceiling.
Sauna accessories
Replacement buckets, ladles, thermometers, hygrometers and stones, plus speakers and oil diffusers built to survive a hot room.

How do I know if my sauna heater needs repair?
Watch for slow heat-up, uneven heat, tripped breakers, a burning smell or a control panel that ignores you. Any one of those deserves a check. A burning smell or a tripping breaker means you should stop using the heater until someone has looked at it.
Tips for maintaining a personal sauna unit?
Prop the door open after each session so the wood can dry. Sit on a towel to keep sweat off the benches. Sweep and wipe down weekly, and lightly sand dark spots once or twice a year. Restack or replace the heater stones every year. On a backyard cabin, clear the gutters and look over the roof each fall before the rain starts.
How long do sauna heaters last?
A good electric heater often runs fifteen to twenty years, with elements and stones replaced along the way. Wood stoves can go longer if the firebox is looked after. Control boards and sensors usually give out before the heater body does.
Can you fix a sauna someone else built?
Yes. Most of our service calls are on rooms put up by other contractors or assembled from a sauna kit. We work on all the common brands and can adapt parts for older or discontinued models.
Is an old sauna worth repairing?
If the framing is sound and the room stays dry, repair almost always costs less than replacement. When the walls are rotten or the layout never worked, starting over can make more sense. When it is close, we give you both figures.
