Occidental is a small village in the redwoods of west county, and many of the homes around it are cabins, homesteads and hand-built houses on wooded, sloping land. Lots are often large, but flat ground is rare, and access roads can be narrow, steep and unpaved. A sauna here usually ends up on a pier foundation or a built-up deck to deal with the slope.
